NetSage is intended to be a full featured management interface for use
with open source network monitoring systems. Initial design will be
for use with MON,
with extensions for use with Cricket planned as well.
But the design is intended to remain generic enough to allow the
system to be used with other monitoring packages, with minimal
changes.
I intend to update this webpage with project status information
regularly, both for the interested members of the MON community, and
for our internal management.
Updates:
- 11/25/02: Wow, it's been a while since I've updated the project pages.
Phase One dragged on for quite a while longer then expected, due to some
feedback that was received in August, and because we were waiting for our
new 2-way pagers to arrive. We're now using Mon as our production monitoring
system, with almost 10,000's lines of mon.cfg. We're running over 11,000
monitor scripts per hour, across the three machines doing the monitoring.
- 8/05/02: Various small schema updates. We've added support for multiple
server configuration files, i.e. mon.cfg and auth.cf all coming from the
same database. The example files haven't been updated. Our auto generated
mon.cfg's are now up to over 2300 lines total, plus auth.cf files for all
three servers.
- 7/30/02: Timeline updated. We had a few weeks where we were focusing
on other projects, and we had some delays while we waited for hardware
to arrive. But we're now actively monitoring lots of things with
the new system. We're auto generating mon.cfg's for 2 slave machines
and one master alert server, in total over 1800 lines of
mon.cfg.
- 6/27/02: Timeline updated. Some minor database schema changes, and
the relevant example files updated with current database format
(minor changes) and more complete examples.
Database APIs and example data and scripts will be available as
soon as I get a chance.
- 6/03/02: Updated timeline with current status and revised schedule.
- 5/14/02: Updated Files page with XML-to-MON converter, and various
minor updates.
- 5/10/02: Added Files page, with SQL Schema and various XML documents
- 5/7/02: Data Model diagram added to Diagrams page. Timeline updated
