topt

The topt utility analyzes Argus log files. In our case, the argus log files are rotated every 5 minutes and 'topt' runs once the file is archived. The output is data summarized by IP address. This data can then be quickly queried/sorted and provides a good glimpse at current network conditions, providing "top talkers" data.

Note: Using the beta version of the argus clients (currently argus-clients-2.0.6.beta.41) is needed; certain options from 2.0.5 were changed.

argus-bytecounts

This utility aggregates individual topt files over an entire day and sends mail about the top N hosts. See the sample topt.conf file for an example of the argus-bytecounts configuration.
