Connecting to the CMU-WPA SSID – NetReg Setup

1. Enter the NetReg system typing netreg.net.cmu.edu into your web browser’s address bar:

2. Authenticate to the WebISO system

3. At the NetReg Main page, click the “Register New Machine” link under Registered Machines.

4. Select “Wireless – WPA (Test)” subnet, then click continue.

5. Fill out the hostname of your machine you are going to be using on WPA.  Please note, if you have the same machine registered on the normal campus wireless network, you will need to choose a different name.  I would suggest using your old hostname-wpa, such as jcarr-wpa.  If you have the option of choosing your own domain name (not pictured here) choose wv.cc.cmu.edu.  Fill in the MAC address of your wireless card in the “Hardware Address” field.  You might need to click the “View Complete List” button to the right of the affiliation drop down box to show the Computing Services or your group name.  Then click the continue button at the bottom of the screen.

6. On the NetReg main page, click on the machine you just created.

7. On the machine page, click the “Manage Certificates” link on the right side

8. Click “Generate New Certificate”

9. Keep the Common Name at the default text otherwise you will not be able to connect.  For length, choose 365 days.  Click Issue Certificate.  This will take a few seconds, up to a minute or two.  Do not click Issue Certificate more than one time.

10. Click Download Certificate

11. Type in a temporary password here.  This will only be used once the certificate has been installed onto your machine.  Do not type your Andrew password here!  Click Download Certificate.

12. Save the certificate to your hard drive.

13. Follow instructions on how to install the certificate and setup your machine for wireless. Windows or Mac OS X Tiger
